Class 10 (Matric) Marking Scheme
Follows the 30–50–20 formula — objective, subjective & internal assessment combined.
Question-Type Weightage
Follows the "30–50–20" formula: 30% objective (MCQ), 50% subjective (very-short, short & long answer), 20% internal assessment/practical — within the 100-mark total per subject.
Passing Criteria
Minimum 33% overall — at least 26/80 in theory and 7/20 in internal assessment for every subject.

Class 11 Marking Scheme
Fully objective, single-term paper — no descriptive questions at this level.
Question-Type Weightage
40 MCQs, 1 mark each, single term — no subjective/descriptive component at this level.
Passing Criteria
Minimum 33% (≈17/50) per subject; must pass at least 4 of 5 subjects.
Class 12 (Intermediate) Marking Scheme
Follows the 30–50–20 formula, adjusted to 70+30 theory/practical for science-heavy subjects.
Question-Type Weightage
Follows the same "30–50–20" formula as Class 10: 30% objective (MCQ), 50% subjective (VSA/SA/LA), 20% practical/internal. Practical-heavy subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Home Science, ETP) shift this to a 70-theory / 30-practical split, keeping the same ~30:50 objective:subjective ratio within the 70 theory marks.
Passing Criteria
Minimum 33% overall — theory minimum is 26/80 (or 23/70 for practical-heavy subjects), practical minimum is 7/20 (or 10/30).

Common questions about the JAC marking scheme
What is the "30-50-20" marking scheme formula?
It's the marks split JAC uses for Class 10 & 12: 30% of the 100 total marks come from objective (MCQ) questions, 50% from subjective questions (very-short, short & long answer), and the remaining 20% from internal assessment or practical work.
Is the marking scheme the same for Class 8, 9 and 11?
No. These three classes are assessed purely through a 40-mark MCQ paper (OMR sheet) plus 10 marks of school-level internal assessment — there is no subjective/descriptive component, unlike Class 10 & 12.
Why do some Class 12 subjects follow a 70+30 split instead of 80+20?
Subjects with a compulsory practical — Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Home Science and ETP — carry 70 theory marks and 30 practical marks, while non-practical subjects like Mathematics, History or Business Studies keep the standard 80 theory + 20 internal-assessment split.
How many marks are needed to pass under this marking scheme?
A minimum of 33% overall in every subject, for Class 8 through 12. For Class 10 & 12 this also means clearing separate minimums in theory and internal/practical — for example 26/80 in theory and 7/20 in internal assessment.
Can the marking scheme change before the actual exam?
JAC occasionally revises the exact objective-to-subjective ratio or question counts from year to year. Always cross-check the final marking scheme against the official JAC model question papers before your exam.
